We are counting days now.

From counting months to counting weeks we are finally counting down in days to leaving South Korea. This morning after the twins went to school Chinedu and I started packing our books. Why do we always have so many books to pack each time we are relocating? It is even less here since Amazon.com was not able to post books to me in South Korea. I saved some money and some packing space, so it is their lost not mine. I remembered buying “My Life” by Bill Clinton for my husband when I travelled to London in 2004 the year it was first published in U.K. We are in 2008 right now and he hasn’t read it yet, if only you know how many times he called me to remind me of buying this book. This made me think of all the great books by very great authors gathering dust in some people’s home libraries. A friend and a neighbour of mine in Paris told us this story about when they travelled to England; how she and her husband went to buy some classic books you know those types that are bounded in leathers. The salesman asked them if the books that they wanted were for reading; they wondered what else one does with a book. The salesman then told them that some people buy books just to decorate their home libraries while others buy for reading. He told them that it will determine the quality of the print and leather to be used. Next time you go to some body’s house and see those leather bounded book collections; do your self a favour and check if they were for reading or for decoration. I believe that the 3 things that can change one’s life are the books you read, the people you meet and the places you have been. I noticed that very successful people have huge libraries with lots of books. Do they acquire these books before or after they became successful? I am going back to my book packing which I left off to write this post.Please leave your answer in the comment box.

    wish i can give you and chinedu
    a hand in packing?

    books. books. books. i love readin greatly;
    but, i must confess i’ve slacked down very much.
    reading makes a man, so francis bacon noted.

    well, about the poser: it is tempting to answer
    that they acquire books when they became rich…
    many do; but certainly not all.

    i had a room-mate, gbenga ogundare, who could spend
    all his savings to buy books…while on the other hand
    i am the type who can borrow books and read before you
    say you want to have it back! and spend my little money
    on other things.

    the verdict: many acquire books after they became rich;
    it does not mean, however, that they had not been reading
    before then.

    my 2rupees.

          I don’t know about this perspective. What does being rich have to do with how many books someone buys? There are too many variables associated with human beings to make a statement like that. Of course, that is just my opinion.

          Tyna, what does it mean to trade links? Someone asked you that on another comment.

            How many books you buy doesn’t make you rich,i was just saying that some rich people buy those books to decorate their libraries although some books appreciates in value over a number of years.It is what you take from the book that helps you not the owning of the book.
            Trading links means exchange of links by 2 bloggers,that is you linking to my blog in exchange for a link to your blog from me.

              OK, how do the links work? I have another question for you, but I don’t want to keep commenting on his post. Since I’m part of your community, is there a place on your site I can get your email address from?
