South Korea: My View

South Korea a land that I lived for close to a year,We finally left for good.Let me tell you what I will miss about this country and its people. To do that i must also also write about the things that i will not miss.

Airport:South Korean Airport is one of the best in terms of neatness, structure, checking in and they even have a play ground for children, there is also Korean cultural musical display area where you can listen to Korean music playing live.To me it the best airport in the world,at least in my world but if you know of any other please let me know.

Hospital:If I am given a chance to take away only one thing from South Korea it be their Ulsan teaching hospital. The equipments are world class and up to date, the clean environment minus the smell of a hospital but fresh and clean air. You get treated first without any mention of how you are going to pay the bills, your health comes first and when you want to leave a receipt is given to you which you either take to a cashier or pay with your credit card on machines placed around the hospital.

Language:I picked up the basic language which is useless because Korean language is not spoken any other country in the world. Koreans don’t speak the English language which i found very odd considering all the English tutorial the attend everyday.

Television/movies:I love the Korean movies and some of their television programs those with English subtitles.I didn’t get to watch normal programs at the right time I get to watch outdated popular programs,so i watched most of my usual stuff online.

People:Koreans are very nosy, loud and talkative. They are friendly to strangers especially if they have something to gain from you. They have a close family relationship they are very family oriented you will see the grand parents living with their children and grand children in the same house. They want to know everything happening around them and talk about them later somewhere else, well i guess because most of the ladies are jobless. In business make sure everything is written down and well understood by each party, need i say more?

Internet & Phone:In South Korea internet connection costs little to nothing, search on the internet are done through Naver.com i think it has to do with language issues.

Housing:The main accommodation here are blocks of flats in a huge buildings that spans between 20-26 floors. Every block of flats have a playground for kids, lawn tennis court etc. The apartments are repainted, furnished and equipped basic items like towels etc before a new tenant moves in. They don’t come to inspect for damages before you move out unlike the French.

Shopping:When it comes to shopping which you know is one of my major hobbies I will say goodbye South Korea forever.I stayed close to a year in South Korea without being able to shop for clothes, shoes and worst of all undies how sad  my shopping life was.

Roads:Their roads are well built and wide the toll gates are only placed at the entrance into another town and not within the same city;you collect a ticket as you leave a town and pay at the next town. You see what the what your money are used for that is road maintainance i guess it is effective because the toll gates are actually owned by the state government but are managed by private companies. They drive recklessly here well i don’t want to talk about that.

Food:There are so many fresh fruits and vegetables, the fresh sea food are wonderful.I wouldn’t miss South korea when it comes to food because there wasn’t much to choose from.As you know a hungry man is an angry man,but i tried to remain happy. Korean women hardly cook especially lunch they prefer to eat out. They have a lot of American junk food chains, they drink so much coffee and chain smoke a lot there.

To be continued……

Tom, honest understanding of South Korea should be separated from those on military assignment, because there is a huge barrier in military assignment expirence and social life expirement in a place.
